What Changes the Cost of Custom Kitchen Cabinets Chicago
- Design and drawing time. Custom work starts with measured drawings, and that stage is real work before anything is built.
- Materials and species. Timber species, veneer and finish all move the price considerably.
- Awkward conditions. Custom cabinetry earns its cost in rooms with angled walls, chimney breasts or unusual ceiling heights.
- Specialty storage. Appliance garages, pantry pull-outs and integrated panels each add fabrication.
- Finishing method. Sprayed finishes give the best result and need controlled conditions to apply.
Custom Kitchen Cabinets Chicago Questions
When is custom cabinetry worth it over stock?
When the room will not accept standard sizes without wasted space, or when you want something specific that stock ranges do not offer. In a square kitchen with normal dimensions, semi-custom often gets you most of the way for less.
How long does custom cabinetry take?
Longer than stock, because it is drawn, approved, built and finished for your room. That timeline is known upfront, and the rest of the project is scheduled around it so nothing sits idle waiting.
Can custom cabinets match existing woodwork?
Often yes — matching profiles, stain and sheen to existing trim is one of the strongest arguments for going custom in an older home. An exact match is not always achievable, and we will show you the closest sample before committing.
Do I get to see the design before it is built?
Yes. Measured drawings come before fabrication, and that is the moment to change your mind about door style, storage and dimensions. Changes after fabrication starts are expensive; changes at the drawing stage cost nothing.
Can appliances be integrated with panels?
Yes, and it has to be decided early. Panel-ready appliances have specific dimensions and hinge requirements that the cabinetry is built around, so the appliance selection comes before the drawings are finalised.
How long do kitchen cabinets take to arrive?
Cabinetry is almost always the longest lead item in a kitchen, well ahead of the construction itself. We order as early as the layout allows and schedule demolition around the delivery date rather than the other way round.
Are plywood boxes worth the extra cost?
In a kitchen that sees heavy use or any risk of moisture, generally yes. Plywood holds screws better and tolerates a leak under the sink far better than particleboard. In a lightly used kitchen the difference is less decisive.
