- Cabinet condition. Tops can only be as level as the cabinets under them, so old cabinetry may need adjustment first.
Kitchen Countertop & Backsplash Questions
Why can't the countertop be ordered before the cabinets are in?
Because it is templated to the cabinets as actually installed, not to a drawing. Even a small variation in cabinet position changes the template. Ordering from a plan is the most common way a top arrives that does not fit.
Which material should I choose?
Quartz suits most households — non-porous, consistent and needs no sealing. Granite offers natural variation and needs periodic sealing. Marble is beautiful and marks; if that will bother you daily, it is the wrong choice regardless of how it looks.
Where will the seams go?
Wherever the slab size and the layout require, but the placement is discussed before fabrication. A seam behind a cooktop or at a narrow point is usually less visible than one across an open run.
Should the backsplash be tile or stone?
A stone splash from the same slab gives a continuous, seamless look and costs more. Tile offers far more design freedom and is easier to change later. Both work; it is a question of what you want the wall to do.
How long between templating and installation?
There is always a gap while the slab is cut, polished and finished. We plan the sequence so the kitchen is not standing still — plumbing and electrical rough work, painting and other trades continue during the fabrication window.
